HostGator, founded in 2002 is one of the most popular Web hosting providers in the United States. With more than nine million hosted domains, this belongs to the largest party ever in addition to providers like BlueHost and DreamHost. I would like to report my experience with HostGator, the following:
Hosting features
With regard to hosting HostGator offers three different fares. The cheap hatchling plan (starting at 3 EURO per month), baby (from $5) and business (from 8 EURO). Already the smallest hatchling package contains various scripting languages such as Perl, Ruby on Rails, SSH, PHP5, cron jobs, Python, unlimited space & traffic, as well as an unlimited number of MySQL databases. The starter package is possible but only a single domain, In addition there is no SSL. So was my choice on the nearest baby package, Which one has no restrictions in this respect.
Domains
Domains are not included with the hosting package at HostGator and have to be paid extra. For the popular domain extensions such as .com, .org, or .NET, you must pay $15 annually. German .de domains can be registered unfortunately at HostGator. But there is the possibility of .de domains to register a different domain (E.g. GoDaddy) and associate with hosting at HostGator. In the hosting settings from HostGator the domains must then be registered as external domains that are at a different hosting company.
Server Administration
The configuration tool that is Very much popular in the United States is used to manage cPanel. cPanel is easy to use and provides access to all configuration options. On this basis, HostGator used the Fantastico script installer, which you can use to install over 50 popular open-source CMS such as WordPress, Joomla, Drupal to TYPO3 with just a few mouse clicks.
Support
Technical questions & issues, HostGator offers numerous options. For one, there is a comprehensive help forum. Further support is possible via support ticket, live chat (round-the-clock), telephone (free of charge in the United States) and Skype. For international customers the Skype is an absolute support plus, also a toll free tech support (in English).Prices
The package prices for hatchling (starting at 3 EURO per month), baby (from $5) and business (from 8 EURO) are bound by a 3-year contract period. Shorter contract periods are also possible (2 years, 1 year, 6 months or 1 month), are somewhat expensive (price list). When the payment, you can choose between credit card (Visa, master card) and PayPal. A one-time set-up fee as with many hosting providers in DE usual, there is no at HostGator.
99.9% uptime
HostGator offers customers a 99.9% uptime guarantee. This means that a server per year may be 9 hours maximum and must be accessible to the rest of the time. I tested this for a month with the server-monitoring tool, Pingdom.com and queried my domain every minute. In the test period it came to any single failure.
Also a good response time of the server could be determined next to a good accessibility:
Who when the order enters the code OMALL25OFF, save 25% in addition. Conclusion and recommendation
I am so far Very much satisfied with the performance of HostGator. I've looked at numerous vendors in the United States, only Very much few offer 99.9% uptime guarantee and free support (telephone and Skype). With believe Me neither stand alone, in comparison tests find HostGator regularly on the front seats.
I am now for a year with my sites at HostGator. HostGator is one of the most reliable Web hosting companies in which I have ever hosted.BerndSeptember 29, 2008 #
HOSTGATOR WARNING:No .de can be domains hosting on hostgator.Reason is that the nameserver are all in the same subnet (what is that). Violation of any provision of the denic.
I asked customer service the HostGator, how the problem can be solved.Their answer: Use the DNS registry service of another company.
It's a pity, because otherwise I was fully satisfied with HostGator. That was no problem at DreamHost, only that you have A lot Too much downtime and the pages are unavailable then several times a day.AdminSeptember 29, 2008 #
Thanks for the note!HostGator is recommended in particular for internationally oriented websites. For .de domains, I think that you should decide for one of the local providers.ManuelNovember 8, 2008 #
